Organometallic for lithium intercalation. Final report

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6520218

The goal of the Phase I program was to determine whether pairs of electrodes containing tetraazaannulenes (TAAs) can be used as the anode and cathode in a lithium metal-free lithium secondary cell. The extent of chemical and electrochemical lithium intercalation of selected TAAs was evaluated. Cyclic voltammetry was also used to characterize the lithiation reaction involved. Three TAAs were identified as electrochemically intercalating lithium with up to five equivalents incorporated. Cells with pairs of electrodes containing TAAs capable of lithium intercalations were cycled; open circuit voltages of such cells were as high as 1.5 V.
