The Importance of energy issues for the economic stability and growth of the world's economies is starkly clear. Energy problems have neither gone away nor are they trivial in the context of the world economics and politics as we approach the next century. Energy in adequate supply, in convenient forms, and at acceptable prices is an absolute essential not only for the industrialized countries of the world but also for the developing countries. It is essential, too, that energy considerations be undertaken in a knowledgeable and responsible way by the various governments involved, including the United States, and not be decided on narrow ''theological'' or political grounds. Too much is at stake for the future allow such approaches to control our destinies in this critical area. The industries involved have a major role as well as vast resources of experience and expertise, which can and should be utilized.
