Ten ways to reduce longwall dust

Because of the continuing problems experienced with the control of respirable dust on longwall faces, the US Bureau of Mines has initiated an intensive programme for the evaluation of currently available control technology. Investigations are being carried out on operations using double-drum shearers, since these give rise to the most severe problems. Examples of techniques which will be examined are given.
