Design of a barge-mounted natural gas liquefaction and storage plant
- Kvaerner-Moss Inc.
Moss Rosenberg Verft A/S has designed a floating plant for liquefaction, storage, and export of natural gas, the Marine LNG System (MLS). An MLS plant was designed specifically for installation near Kangan, Iran, to produce LNG equivalent to 384 million cu ft/day from the offshore Pars gasfield, including a pretreatment plant, a sulfur storage pit, a flare, an accommodations and administrative center, pipelines and onshore facilities, a submarine pipeline, and the MLS. Details of the design are presented including the layout, environmental conditions, barge construction and mooring system, corrosion protection, the spherical storage tanks for LNG, process equipment, mixed refrigerant cooling by the process of Air Products and Chemical Inc., propane refrigeration in the feed system, utilities, safety system, firefighting systems, and the risk management analysis procedure carried on throughout the design process. The construction advantages of barge-mounted plants are outlined, with a typical production schedule extending more than four years.
