Method for acidizing subterranean formations

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6512541
Gelled acidic compositions suitable for either matrix acidizing or fracture-acidizing of subterranean formations and methods of using the compositions in acidizing operations are described. The compositions consist of water, a water-dispersible biopolysaccharide, an acid, a water soluble compound of a polyvalent metal wherein the metal can be reduced to a lower polyvalent state, and a reducing agent capable of reducing the metal. The metal in the lower polyvalent state serves as the crosslinker for the polymer. The biopolysaccharide is xantham gum, the chromates and dichromates are examples of a reducible polyvalent metal, and the bisulfites and thioacetamide are examples of reducing agents. (19 claims)
