Four days of hearings were held from May 9-18, 1979 to consider the Carter proposal to tax the petroleum industry's windfall profits and to establish an energy trust fund. The administration witnesses, including Charles L. Schultz, James R. Schlesinger, W. Michael Blumenthal, and James T. McIntyre, Jr., explained and defended the proposal. They were followed by witnesses from the petroleum industry, various consumer and industry groups, and the general public. The statements of 81 witnesses and additional material submitted for the record are included. (DCK)
