Preparation of cerium-activated silica glasses: Phosphorus and aluminum codoping effects on absorption and fluorescence properties

Journal Article · · J. Am. Ceram. Soc.; (United States)
This paper presents a synthetic method for producing Ce-doped and Ce-(Al or P)-codoped SiO/sub 2/ glasses and evaluates the effect of codopants and the glass-forming process on the ionic valency states and fluorescence properties. The results obtained support the solvation shell model and suggest that Ce-P-codoped SiO/sub 2/ glasses are good candidates for laser applications.
