Title: Time resolved spectroscopy of xenon excimers excited by synchrotron radiation

Journal Article · · J. Chem. Phys.; (United States)
DOI:https://doi.org/10.1063/1.439490· OSTI ID:6511346

Formation and decay rates of the lowest O/sub u//sup +/ and 1/sub u/ states of Xe/sub 2/*, excited by monochromatized synchrotron radiation from the Stanford storage ring (SPEAR), have been measured in pure xenon and in xenon-argon mixtures over the pressure range 10/sup 2/ to 10/sup 4/ Torr. The results are interpreted to yield radiative lifetimes (4.6 +/- 0.3 and 99 +/- 2 nsec, respectively, for vibrationally relaxed O/sub u//sup +/ and 1/sub u/ molecules), vibrational relaxation rates (7 x 10/sup -11/ and 6 x 10/sup -12/ cm/sup 3//sec for Xe/sub 2/*(1/sub u/) in collisions with xenon and argon, respectively), the Xe/sub 2/*(O/sub u//sup +/) three-body formation rate from Xe(/sup 3/P/sub 1/) (5.3 x 10/sup -32/ cm/sup 3//sec), and rates for O/sub u//sup +/-1/sub u/ mixing by collisions with xenon and argon. 19 references, 10 figures, 2 tables.
