Phase composition and long range order in gamma-prime phase of a nickel base single crystal superalloy CMSX2: an atom probe study

Journal Article · · Acta Metall.; (United States)
A conventional voltage-pulse time-of-flight atom probe is used to investigate the composition and order of the gamma and gamma-prime phases of the Ni-based superalloy CMSX2 (nominal composition in atomic percent 67.4 Ni, 12.5 Al, 1.2 Ti, 9 Cr, 5 Co, 2 Ta, 2.5 W, 0.4 Mo). The results are presented in graphs and diagrams and discussed. It is found that the phase transition takes place in one atomic layer, and that the gamma-prime phase comprises alternating Ni-rich and Al-rich (001) planes. The compositions of these (001) planes are used to calculate the probability of finding an Al or Ni atom in each type of site. 14 references.
