A totally new orientation relationship between Widmanstaetten cementite and austenite in Fe-Mn-C alloys has been obtained using convergent beam Kikuchi line diffraction patterns with an accuracy of approximately {+-}0.5{degree} or better. The new orientation relationship is: (0{bar 2}2){sub Z}{parallel}({ovr 11}1){sub A}; [100]{sub Z}{parallel}[112]{sub A}; [011]{sub Z}{parallel}[{bar 1}10]{sub A}. In terms of this variant of orientation relationship the experimentally determined habit plane is (0{bar 1}5){sub Z} 1.1{degree} from ({bar 2}01){sub A}. A recently developed concept of edge to edge matching of close packed planes along the good fit directions in these planes, has been used to explain the current and previously reported habit planes and orientation relationships. The good fit directions are normally close packed directions in the two phases.
