Solid-liquid separation (SLS) techniques are important in many fields. SLS may be divided into four areas: pretreatment to increase particle size, thickening of slurry, filtration or centrifugation, and post-treatment by washing or deliquoring. This paper is an attempt to relate the microscopic properties of particles to the macroscopic properties of slurries, cake, and supporting media. Both theory and experiment were utilized. (DLC)
