Programmable controllers boost product pipeline efficiency

Journal Article · · Pipe Line Ind.; (United States)

Navajo Pipeline Company and Midland-Lea Pipeline Company expect a two-year return on investment by installing programmable controllers in the pumping stations on their new eight-inch pipe line which spans some 400 miles of desolate country from Lovington, NM, to El Paso, Texas and Midland, Texas. The PCs, and a microwave system linking the remote stations, cost somewhat more than $1.5 million. But the alternative was to go to hard-wired, manned stations, and face continuing wage escalation over the life of the pipe line.
