Thermal decomposition of peat in the presence of certain organic compounds

Journal Article · · Solid Fuel Chem. (Engl. Transl.); (United States)
OSTI ID:6505913

The results are presented of investigations of the thermal decomposition of peat in the presence of aromatic and hydroxyaromatic compounds (phenol, hydroquinone, resorcinol, pyrogallol, furfural, naphthalene, and phenanthrene). It has been shown that these compounds exert an influence on the yield and composition of the final products of thermal decomposition. Some kinetic parameters of the thermal degradation of peat have been determined by derivatogaphy and it has been established that the addition of the above-mentioned compounds to peat lowers the activation energy and the rate constant of the reaction in comparison with the initial peat.
