Method of fracturing a subterranean formation using delayed crosslinker compositions containing organic titanium complexes

Patent ·
OSTI ID:6503478
A method is described of fracturing a subterranean formation penetrated by a well, comprising: (a) producing a gel solution by adding to an aqueous solution of an organic crosslinkable polymer; (i) a sufficient amount of a crosslinker composition to result in delayed crosslinking of the polymer. The crosslinker composition has an organic titanium complex to crosslink the polymer, an organic alpha-monohydroxycarboxylic acid to delay crosslinking of the polymer by the titanium complex, and a pH of no greater than 4.8; (ii) sufficient carbon dioxide to result in a pH of substantially 3 to 5 in the polymer solution; and (b) pumping the fracturing fluid through the well against the formation at a sufficient pressure and flow rate to create and/or extend a fracture into the subterranean formation.
