New motor vehicles and new engines must comply with the Clean Air Act before they are offered for sale. The Environmental Protection Agency selects vehicles from each engine family for testing prior to production of a new model. The centrification data in this volume lists the emission levels of light-duty vehicles and trucks, motorcycles, and heavy-duty engines for all the models and configurations certified as of May 3, 1982. The information includes the levels of hydrocarbon, carbon monoxide, and oxides of nitrogen in the exhaust emissions per mile, the grams of hydrocarbons in evaporative emissions, and the exhaust and evaporative deterioration factors.
