Patent ·
OSTI ID:6502405

This patent describes reamer tool apparatus adapted for use in a drill string during rotary drilling operation to form a borehole, including: a tubular member forming an outer surface and having upper and lower threaded connections for mounting the tubular member at a desired location in the drill string; at least one borehole wall contacting roller cutter disposed on the outer surface of the tubular member for enlarging the borehole and for radially supporting the drill string in the borehole; means for mounting the roller cutter on the tubular member including a shaft and a pair of bearing blocks for providing rotational support for the shaft; the shaft having first and second ends and mounting the roller cutter between the ends; one of the bearing blocks mountable on the first end of the shaft and the other of the bearing blocks mountable on the second end of the shaft, the shaft movable axially relative to the bearing blocks when positioned thereon; the tubular member having means for forming a separate mounting groove for each bearing block to position the bearing blocks on the tubular member.
