This thesis examines the mechanisms of lead uptake in plants. The lead content of plants increased as soil lead increased. There was wide variation among and between species. The lead accumulated by a plant was influenced by the form of the lead added to the soil. Ion exchange sites on the root surface apparently play an important role in uptake. Active metabolic processes are involved in intra-plant lead transport.
