Personal exposure to respirable particulates and sulfates

Journal Article · · J. Air Pollut. Control Assoc.; (United States)
As part of a long-term epidemiologic study of the respiratory effects of air pollution, a monitoring program to measure personal exposure to respirable particulates and sulfates was conducted. The personal exposure of 37 volunteers to these substances was measured and compared with simultaneous measurements of outdoor ambient concentrations and concentrations in the homes of the participants. Results indicated that mean personal exposure was directly related to mean outdoor concentrations of particulates and sulfates. A time-weighted indoor/outdoor model to estimate personal exposure to respirable sulfates and particulates is described. (4 graphs, 1 photo, 25 references, 5 tables)
