Covariant electrodynamics in a medium. 1

A covariant formulation of electrodynamics in a uniform, isotropic, and transparent medium is given. The development is quite similar to recent formulations for electrodynamics in a vacuum. The discussion includes the manifestly covariant expression of Maxwell's equations in a medium, the associated stress tensor, the covariant expressions for the Lenard-Wiechert-like 4-potentials for a point charge moving in the medium, and the corresponding field tensor. Further, an action function is constructed and the stress tensor is also confirmed by Noether's theorem.
