Analysis and evaluation of light-duty engines for gas-fired cogeneration. Final report, November 1983-February 1986

Nine natural gas fueled, commercial 60-kW packaged cogeneration systems at eight separate sites were monitored for over a year to produce 57,000 hours of documented operation of light-duty engine and cogeneration system performance data. The results showed that the automotive spark-ignition engines converted to natural gas fuel were responsible for a minority of cogeneration system problems, and that the overall reliability and performance of cogeneration systems based on low-cost engines should be as favorable as for systems based on other prime movers.
