Amoco Production Company has developed and successfully applied in the Gulf Coast area of the U.S. a completion technique that has allowed high rate completions with effective sand control to be made in partially pressure depleted gas reservoirs. The technique is simultaneous underbalanced peforating at high perforation shot density with a tubing-conveyed perforating gun as the solution to achieving the combination of the desired gravel pack design and clean peforations. Field data is presented which supports the conclusion that no other perforation cleaning is necessary. This completion technique can also be applied to virgin pressure formations. The field operations which are necessary to safely implement the entire technique are discussed in detail based on offshore experience completing wells by this method. 3 refs.
