South Serepta field (smackover, gray sand) Bossier and Webster Parishes, Louisiana

Conference · · Trans., Gulf Coast Assoc. Geol. Soc.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6495720
The S. Sarepta field is located in NE. Bossier Parish and NW. Webster Parish, Louisiana, about 10 miles south of the Arkansas-Louisiana boundary. The Gray Sand, a member of the Smackover Formation of Jurassic age, has been known to be gas-bearing for some time in this field. However, it as not until the advent of modern fracturing techniques and a significant rise in the price of natural gas that this formation was capable of sustaining commercial gas production. The main portion of this study is not a geological discussion of the field but rather an account of the engineering developments which have made commercial gas production possible from the Gray Sand. As a result, these techniques have made available a major new source of gas reserves in N. Louisiana.
