Family and community biogas plants in rural India and China

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6493595
This report contains the basic theory of biogas production, tables of expected production, installation costs, architectural diagrams for both the Indian and Chinese plants, a case for community biogas plants in India, a pilot community biogas scheme in Uttar Pradesh, and conclusions. The conclusions were that cooking fuel should be supplied for free or deforestation would continue, not enough fuel can be generated anyway without the use of other fuels as well in many communities, electric lighting is not a strongly felt need in most rural communities and should be introduced later, factionalist tendencies must be overcome for the scheme to work, and community biogas plants will offer a more reliable yield and may be supported by agricultural as well as animal and human wastes.
