Light-fermion-mass generation in a Kaluza-Klein theory

Journal Article · · Phys. Rev. D; (United States)
I study a model of a compactified Kaluza-Klein theory as an SU(2) gauge theory on the direct product of a flat two-dimensional Minkowski space M/sup 2/ with a two-sphere S/sup 2/. The perturbation theory on M/sup 2/ is developed. In particular, induced tree-level fermion-gauge field and one-loop fermion--Higgs-boson Yukawa couplings are computed. The latter calculation generates a mass hierarchy for the massless fermions on M/sup 2/.
