In the past year, our effort was to: (1) continue to elucidate the relationship between the surface structure of ZnO and the surface chemistry; (2) attempt to understand the relationship between the bulk structure and the selectivity in the oxidation of butene on iron oxide; and (3) explore the use of electrostatic potential argument to explain the formation of new acid sites in a dilute oxide solution. Progress in these areas is described.
