Title: Photochemical energy storage: studies of inorganic photoassistance agents. Progress report, September 15, 1981-November 29, 1982

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6492725

Developments are briefly reported in: p-type WS/sub 2/-based photoelectrochemical cells, photochemical chlorine generation, and a-Si:H photocathodes. The properties of the p-WS/sub 2/ are found to rival or surpass those of p-InP and to closely resemble p-WSe/sub 2/ with respect to efficiency in photochemical H/sub 2/ generation. By using very high concentrations of LiCl in aqueous solution it has been possible to effect the visible light-assisted generation of Cl/sub 2/ at n-MY/sub 2/ photoanodes (M=Mo, W; Y=S, Se). Preliminary data indicate that photochemical generation of H/sub 2/ from the a-Si:H is more efficient than from single crystal p-Si, though a surface catalyst is required in both cases. (LEW)
