A look at Ohio's results from fracturing

Journal Article · · Oil Gas J.; (United States)
OSTI ID:6491897

A review of the status of hydraulic fracturing in Ohio is presented. Topics included in this review are required horesepower, fracturing fluids used, chemical additives used, types and sizes of proppants, fracture control, cost, and results. Ohio frac jobs have generally resulted in profitable production increases. Most of the fracture jobs are using 1,000-2,000 hp; specially treated water; several chemical additives, such as friction reducers, non-emulsifiers, gelling agents, fluid-loss additives, bactericides, and nitrogen; and 20-40 mesh sand. Open-hole and casing completion techniques are being used. Fracture control is obtained by using some type of a plugging agent during open-hole completion, and ''perf balls'' with casing completions.
