Well completion design series. Pt. 6. Effective completion fluid programs, Texas Gulf Coast and Mid-Continent regions
It has been found that successful well completion and stimulation procedures have provided the following advantages in the Texas Gulf Coast and Mid-Continent regions: (1) the cost of the investment is returned rapidly; (2) oil produced now does not have to be discounted in value; (3) reservoir energy is conserved; and (4) secondary recovery projects can be postponed. By carefully selecting the completion fluid and procedure, well bore damage has been minimized. Several ways that well bore damage occurs are explained. The mechanism of the well bore damage is most often of 2 general types: mechanical blocking of the pore spaces by mud particle invasion, and the dirty sand-type of damage caused by clay swelling when contacted by fresh water.
