In this investigation the effects of sand grain size, injection rate, and type of gas injected upon the recovery of the intermediate (CD2U-CD6U) hydrocarbons by high pressure gas injection were studied by making a series of displacement tests on a sand-pack 20 ft long and 1 in. in diameter. In each of the displacement experiments an attempt was made to maintain a constant flow rate at a constant injection pressure. All of the reported data were obtained from experiments made with one mixture of intermediate hydrocarbons. Three different sands were used. Methane was the most efficient displacing gas and almost complete recovery of oil was obtained after the injection of less methane than of nitrogen or flue gas. Nitrogen showed a slightly higher recovery than flue gas. The finest sand yielded the highest recovery probably due to the larger area of contact between oil and gas. (Longer abstract available)
