The LURE Laboratory at Orsay is designing a new storage ring SOLEIL of energy 2.15 GeV which will provide 5 keV critical energy photons from dipole bends and photons in the energy range from 20 eV to 1.5 keV from undulators. The storage ring is 216 m in circumference and has 16 laminated dipoles with a maximum field of 1.6 Tesla and 80 laminated quadrupoles with a maximum gradient of 13 T.m[sup [minus]1]. Sextupole coils with a maximum strength of H = 25 T.M[sup [minus]2] are located inside the quadrupoles. This scheme is very efficient for the chromaticity correction and dynamic aperture optimization. It was already used on the LURE storage rings DCI and Super-ACO. The design of the different magnets of SOLEIL is presented.
