Velocity and scattering measurements in a swirl-stabilized combustor: Final report, 6/1/77 through 9/30/82

Technical Report ·
OSTI ID:6488031
Laser diagnostic techniques are employed for measurements of velocity, molecular number density, and mean fuel concentration in a swirling flow continuous combustor. The flow configuration is that of confined concentric jets with the flow jets swirling, either in the same direction (co-swirl) or in opposite directions (counter-swirl) and with the central flow a mixture of fuel and air and the outer flow air alone. Velocity field characteristics are measured with a single channel laser doppler anemometer system for both reacting and non-reacting flow at co-swirl and counter-swirl conditions. Axial and tangential velocity data are obtained at numerous radial positions for several axial locations. The results of the experiment are summarized.
