Construction continued last year on the Zeepipe system to take Norwegian North Sea gas to the Belgian port of Zeebrugge. Prominent among the accomplishments of Phase 3 of the project was the installation in 1992 of a subsea connection point (SCP) at the hydraulic mid-point of the system between Sleipner field and the Zeebrugge terminal. The SCP provides for new branches to be connected to the original 40-in. trunkline during future phases without the pipeline being shutdown. The paper describes Zeepipe's options; the adopted solution; pipeline expansion; the subframe, main unit, and supports; U-bend cover and pipe supports; the installation; and tie-ins.
