Multicomponent polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon analysis of inland water and sediment

Conference ·
OSTI ID:6486413
Many polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) exhibit considerable carcinogenic, mutagenic, or toxic activity. Methods for reliable identification and quantification of PAHs in the aqueous environment are important for assessment of the potential environmental impact of processes releasing such compounds in aqueous discharges. This paper reports the development of multicomponent PAH analytical methods for inland water and sediment. The method consists of separate steps for PAH extraction, isolation and concentration, and identification and quantification. Each step is described separately.
