Results of tests with instruments that monitor the efficiency of domestic oil-fired heating furnaces as well as pollutants released in the air are given. The most effective technique for improving the performance of residential heating furnaces has been found to be the replacement of the burner head with a new flame retention head. In addition, these heads reduce pollutants because of more complete combustion. 6 refs.
