This patent describes an internal combustion engine comprised of a cylinder block having a pair of angularly spaced cylinder banks and defining an upper portion of a crankcase, a chamber formed by the cylinder block between the cylinder banks and separated from the crankcase by an integral lower wall of the cylinder block, opening means formed in the lower wall for communicating the chamber with the crankcase, the cylinder block forming an integral upper wall closing the chamber and having an opening formed therein, and a separator for separating lubricant from the crankcase ventilating gases comprising an outer housing defining an internal cavity closed by an upper wall and surrounded by a sidewall, the outer housing upper wall being supported upon the cylinder block integral upper wall and closing the cylinder block upper wall opening with the separator outer housing side wall depending into the cavity, a discharge conduit extending through the upper wall, and a baffle plate affixed at spaced locations to the sidewall and spaced inwardly from the sidewall at other locations for admitting crankcase gases to the cavity from the chamber and for return of condensed liquids to the crankcase of the associated engine from the chamber.
