Inert-gas halide lasers

The performance of, and recent progress in, inert-gas halide lasers, pumped by transverse electric-discharge devices, are discussed. Pulse energies of more than 100 mJ and overall electric efficiencies of more than 1% have been obtained for XeF and KrF lasers. Pulse repetition rates up to 400 Hz have been demonstrated. Laser action has been obtained for ArF, ArCl, KrCl, XeCl, XeBr.
