Anion diffusivities in the lattice and along grain boundaries have been measured on sintered polycrystals of Cr/sub 2/O/sub 3/ and Cr/sub 2/O/sub 3/-0.09 weight percent Y/sub 2/O/sub 3/ at 1100/degree/C and at the oxygen partial pressure corresponding to that of the Cr/Cr/sub 2/O/sub 3/ equilibrium at that temperature. Results show that under the same conditions, anion diffusion is significantly faster than cation diffusion. The results are discussed in terms of their implications for the reactive element effect on high temperature oxidation of chromia forming alloys. 10 refs., 3 figs., 1 tab.
