A fracturing fluid is described which is an aqueous solution of an interaction product of xanthan gum and a galactomannan. Galactomannans which are most effective in forming gels on interacting mixtures with other xanthan gums are those that have low proportions of galactose residues. Satisfactory galactomannans include locust bean gum and guar gum. Examples of the interaction are in graphical form. A 50:50 mixture of locust bean and xanthan gums gives a 12-fold viscosity increase over xanthan alone and a 300-fold increase over locust bean gum. (4 claims)
