The Tandem Mirror Experiment-Upgrade (TMX-U) is a new experiment in tandem micrror physics. It uses some of the components of the first Tandem Mirror Experiment (TMX), which was shut down in October, 1980 after successfully operating for more than one year. TMX-Upgrade incorporates additional electrostatic plugging due to electron thermal barriers and microwave heating. This paper is an overview of the TMX Upgrade design and construction.
