Effects of nuclear deformation on sup 151,153 Eu( p , n ) sup 151,153 Gd reactions

Total cross sections for the {sup 151,153}Eu({ital p},{ital n}){sup 151,153}Gd reactions have been measured between 5 and 12 MeV. We observe a significant ({le}35%) enhancement of the cross sections for {sup 153}Eu relative to {sup 151}Eu and find that the enhancement below {similar to}10 MeV is due largely to the shape difference between {sup 151}Eu({beta}{sub 2}=0.13) and {sup 153}Eu({beta}{sub 2}=0.28).
