Annual radiological environmental monitoring report, Watts Bar Nuclear Plant, 1986
The Watts Bar Nuclear Plant (WBN) is located in Rhea County, Tennessee, bounded on the east by Chickamauga Reservoir. A preoperational environmental radiological monitoring program was implemented in December 1976. This program has the objective of establishing a baseline of data on the distribution of natural and manmade radioactivity in the environment near the plant site. This report presents the results obtained from that program during 1986. Since WBN has not achieved criticality, there has been no contribution of radioactivity from the plant to the environment. The levels of radioactivity being reported in this document are due to natural background radiation, fallout from nuclear weapons testing, fallout from the Chernobyl nuclear power station accident, or other nuclear operations in the area.
