Electrode kinetics of niobium complexes in acidic perchlorate and sulfate solutions

Polarography was used to study the kinetics of change of charge of niobium(V) and niobium(III) complexes at mercury in acidic perchlorate and sulfuric acid solutions. Polarograms were recorded with a polarograph and dripping mercury electrode. The number of electrons involved in the electrode process was determined coulometrically. The chemical and electrochemical steps of the electrode reactions and the dependence of the diffusion coefficients of niobium(V) and niobium(III) on solution composition are discussed.
