Single-frequency semiconductor laser with graded-index-rod external cavity

Journal Article · · Chin. Phys. Lasers; (United States)

The difference between the laser oscillator cavity and the graded-index-rod external cavity, and the diffraction loss of the coupling cavity are described by the amplitude coupling factors. The effect of a small displacement of the graded-index-rod on the amplitude coupling factors is discussed. The mode-selection theory of a semiconductor laser with an additional graded-index-rod external cavity was proven by the present experiments. Single-longitudinal-mode operation of the laser was obtained, with a side-mode suppression ratio greater than 35 dB, a linewidth less than 21 MHz, and a maximum wavelength tuning range of 11 nm.
