Measurement of D{sub s}{r_arrow}{tau}{nu}{sub {tau}} and search for B{r_arrow}{tau}{nu}{sub {tau}} with the L3 detector

The purely leptonic decays of heavy mesons D{sub s}{r_arrow}{tau}{nu}{sub {tau}} and B{r_arrow}{tau}{nu}{sub {tau}} are studied in a sample of 1.5M Z{r_arrow}q{bar q}({gamma}) events collected in 1994 by the L3 detector at LEP. A signal for the decay chain D{sub s}{sup 0}{r_arrow}{gamma}D{sub s}, D{sub s}{r_arrow}{tau}{nu}{sub {tau}}, {tau}{r_arrow}scr(l){nu}{sub scr(l)}{nu}{sub {tau}} is observed in the invariant mass distribution M({gamma}D{sub s}). From this signal, a branching ration of scr(B)(D{sub s}{r_arrow}{tau}{nu}{sub {tau}})=0.074{plus_minus}0.028(stat){plus_minus}0.016(syst){plus_minus}0.018(n rm) is derived, corresponding to a decay constant f{sub D{sub s}}=309{plus_minus}58(stat){plus_minus}33(syst){plus_minus}38(norm)thinspGeV. No signal is observed for the decay B{r_arrow}{tau}{nu}{sub {tau}}, and an upper limit of scr(B)(B{r_arrow}{tau}{nu}{sub {tau}}){lt}5.7{times}10{sup {minus}4} at 90{percent} CL is set.
