Microcomputer applications in the drilling industry

The popularity and usefulness of the microcomputer are rapidly increasing. This tool has many applications pertinent to the drilling industry. Software and hardware for drilling uses are finding their way into the field. LOTUS 1-2-3/sup TM/ is one of many microcomputer software packages useful in the drilling business. Two proprietary programs that use LOTUS 1-2-3 were developed in this study for application in drilling. The first is a spreadsheet for the optimization of drill-bit hydraulics; the second is a graphics macro for generating curves of well depth vs. number of drilling days. Both programs demonstrate the distinct advantages of microcomputer application in the oil industry.
