Texture development by plastic deformation
Plastic deformation of crystalline materials occurs mainly by slip which is commonly restricted to certain slip systems. The shape change is generally accompanied by an orientation change of the crystal lattice. This is the cause of texture formation during plastic deformation in polycrystalline materials. The orientation change deltag depends on the orientation of the slip systems relative to the shape change which is enforced in the crystals, i.e., it depends on the crystallographic nature (hkl) and critical shear stresses /tau//sub 1/ of the slip systems (which are not necessarily constant when hardening occurs during the deformation), on the components e /SUB ij/ of the displacement gradient tensor and on the crystallographic orientation g of the crystal relative to e. For the sake of brevity, deformation refers to displacement gradient.
