Solar economics: fact and fiction

A review of the economics of solar energy is presented, and a method of calculating the comparative economics of solar, natural gas, oil, electricity, etc. is suggested. The author points out that solar energy systems should be compared with other systems on a life cycle costing basis rather than on an initial capital cost basis. Factors effecting the economic analysis of solar energy are also discussed, and possible future solar technologies are reviewed.
