Preparation of 97. 683 wt % U/sup 235/ uranium isotopic standard

A very highly enriched (VHE) uranium isotopic standard has been prepared as the urano-uranic oxide. The enrichment level of the standard, determined at the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant, is 97.683 +-0.015 weight percent /sup 235/U, the precision expressed at the 95% confidence limits. This standard was prepared from 2100 g of uranium hexafluoride removed from a cylinder containing 21 kg of uranium hexafluoride withdrawn from the Portsmouth cascade. It was received in the Oak Ridge Gaseous Diffusion Plant Laboratory on March 10, 1964. The purification of this material was conducted during March 1965.
