Application of membrane technology to power generation waters

Journal Article · · Ind. Water Eng.; (United States)

The three major membrane separation processes for water and wastewater treatment are reverse osmosis, ultrafiltration, and electrodialysis. The fundamentals, development, and application of each process are reviewed. These processes are widely used for sewage treatment or seawater desalination. Reverse osmosis is shown to be suitable for treating power plant effluents for reuse. Ultrafiltration can be used as a pretreatment for reverse osmosis in such facilities, and electrodialysis is effective in removing suspended solids from cooling tower effluents.
