ZSM-4 crystallization via faujasite metamorphosis

Chemical analyses, X-ray diffraction studies, and high-resolution scanning electron microscopy studies were performed of the crystallization processes which transformed amorphous aluminosilicate to Y faujasite and the faujasite to zeolite P in the absence, and to ZSM-4 in the presence, of tetramethylammonium cations. The recrystallization of the faujasite to ZSM-4 proceeded by nucleation of the ZSM-4 crystal on the faujasite surface and dissolution of the faujasite without an intermediate amorphous phase.
